How is Tuition Money Used?

Tuition fees are used for funding all hockey operations including ice rentals, league fees, team registrations, equipment, referee costs, and player development clinics (Driscoll Skills for 10U & 12U and Goalie Clinics). The FYHP Tuition Policy can be found here

At the end of each hockey season, members of the FYHP Board of Directors meet to study the program and estimate costs for the following season. As a nonprofit organization, our goal for each season is to have all income and expenses match. Our tuition estimates are based on incoming players (graduates from Learn to Play), players aging out of levels, and projections of expenses.

Our largest expense, by far, is ice! As a program, we are fortunate enough to host many of our league games and all of our practices at Loring Arena in Framingham. In a typical year about 50% of tuition fees is used to purchase ice. The yearly total cost of program ice varies depending on the number of players and teams in the program.

Our second largest expense is for Youth Hockey League fees. In a typical year, about 37% of tuition fees is used to pay league fees. Our travel teams are registered in the Valley Hockey League and the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls League

That leaves the program with about 13% for everything else. This includes items like:
