2/10 - FYHP Coaches Email

Coaches

I wanted to touch base on a couple of things, as we progress towards the end of the season.

1) If your team was successful in its playdown game and is playing in the state tournament, this is not an added cost for your team: FYHP covers this cost.

State Tournament Overview:

All of the information can be found on the Mass Hockey website, linked here: State Tournament Information

As a guide, Framingham is considered a "Large" program.
Tier III are the A teams
Tier IV are the B teams
Tier V are the C teams.

2) Tryouts are less than a month away, scheduled to run from March 10th - March 24th. The best thing we can do, to continue to build and grow a strong program, is be good advocates for the program. I mentioned this in my last email, but it really is true. If your son or daughter plays club with kids that don't do town hockey, even if not from Framingham - then make the pitch. Our program is low cost, relative to others - and has passionate coaches. Tryouts are $300 if registered before March 1st.

DRILL OF THE WEEK

Over the last couple of weeks, my staffs and I have spent an increased amount of time revisiting our breakouts. We're stressing that when retrieving the puck in our D zone, the weak side defensemen retreat to behind the net, so now we have options. Defensemen need to get back quickly, even if they don't perceive pressure. We're working on going D-to-D in our zone, sometimes more than once, to establish that clean, zone exit. We tell our defensemen that a clean breakout starts with them: by making the right decision with the puck, and making good, crisp passes. If your team is struggling with a breakout, I encourage you to spend some time with it. And if your team has a good breakout, continue to challenge them with coach's pressure.

Best,

Casey & Eric
